Done That

Summer Vacation 2009

Was your summer vacation fun?

Mine was jam packed with stuff.

Right after school I auditioned for and got a part in a
musical.
We started practicing every week from the end of May to the beginning of July. Being in a musical is time consuming. It is a huge commitment. I missed a lot of movies and going to friends’ house because rehearsal was in the evening. I have been in plays before but this was my first musical. Musicals are a lot harder than plays and take much more work.  The show turned out great. I met 40 new friends and one really special one.

Lincoln's Tomb
I visited Springfield, IL and saw Lincoln’s home, museum, and tomb. I took a tour of his house. I noticed that there were no bathrooms in the house. There was a shed in the back yard with three buckets right next to each other. Gross. The Museum was very nice with lots of real artifacts. They even had Abe’s hat. The Museum had  two amazing theaters. Theaters had real things pop out at you, killer sound, and lifelike pictures. Lincoln’s tomb was the biggest tomb I have ever seen. It had two floors! His body is buried 40 feet under ground in a metal and concrete chamber.

My family also went to Santa Claus, IN. We stayed in a log cabin at Lake Rudolph. It had a loft upstairs that was only four feet tall with three twin beds. It’s perfect for kids. The cabin had a skinny kitchen, a family room, a master bedroom, and a deck.

We went to Holiday World the next day. Holiday World is a huge park like Six Flags. It has free Pepsi and sunscreen. The water park is huge. My favorite ride was the Pilgrims Plunge which is the worlds tallest water ride at 131 feet tall. It was so much fun. There are three roller coasters. I rode two of them and chickened out on the last one. If you ever get a chance, go there.

If you went somewhere fun or did something not so fun this summer, let me know.  I may mention it in an upcoming issue.

YOU can respond by sending an email to ben@todaysadvantage.com or hand carry your message to the Today’s AdVantage office in Alton. There are a lot of kids like us looking for fun things to do and cool places to go.

This is Ben Thayer and I’ve done that.
