Orthodontist

I got braces last week! I was excited and nervous at the same time because I didn’t know what to expect. I also was afraid I was going to bleed.
I got them on Wednesday at Haug Orthodontics. Dr. Kim Haug rocks! She is so nice. She has PSPs for patient’s to play.
My braces are silver and my dad thinks I look like a robot. When I was getting them on, I didn’t feel anything. They stuck this thing in my mouth to spread my cheeks out and eventually my gums went numb.
Dr. Haug’s assistants are great. They are nice and made me feel very comfortable. Oh and they all dress alike. The day I got my braces on they were all wearing St. Louis Cardinals’ jerseys.
The second day was the worst. I could hardly eat because my teeth were very sore. Also with braces, I had to have a bite plate that goes on the roof of my mouth. This keeps me from biting the braces off.
Way before I got my braces, I had to have six teeth pulled at Godfrey Dental Care. Dr. Jim Mathus is so nice. He always explains what he is doing and seems like he really cares. He has been my dentist my whole life. Getting teeth pulled isn’t fun. It hurts and you can hear the sound of the roots breaking. I already have had six pulled and still need two more pulled in a week. I am not looking forward to that!
I am happy because Dr. Haug said that I will have my braces off before high school. I am also glad that I don’t have to wear a retainer. My friend had a retainer and it smelled like a trash bag that has been sitting out for two weeks. Peeeeeeeu.
If you have a story about braces or a retainer I would like to know and so will others. If you’ve done something fun, let me know. I may mention it in an upcoming issue. YOU can respond by sending an email to ben@todaysadvantage.com. There are a lot of kids like us looking for fun things to do and cool places to go.
This is Ben Thayer and I’ve done that.
