Done That

To Star Wars in Concert, I went

starwarsconcert

Mama Thayer was flipping tv channels and she stumbled onto an orchestra playing in front of a giant video screen showing scenes from all the Star Wars movies.

As it turns out, this was a video of the live concert that’s touring America. The program was on channel 9.
As usual, Channel 9 was selling memberships. This time, for anyone who becomes a Channel 9 member, they get the option to buy premium seating at the Star Wars Concert soon to be in St. Louis at the Scott Trade Center.

Guess what. The Thayer family is now a Channel 9 member!

Our premium seats were on the floor in Section A row nine in seats one, two, three, and four. We were “right there” with a bunch of other new Channel 9 members I’m sure.

There are only three in my family so I got to take my friend Stephen to the show.
Once we got there, we found a really good parking space just outside the Scott Trade Center. Inside, there were actual costumes of real characters from the movies like C3PO, Ewoks, Imperial Guards, Stormtroopers etc. There were even actors in full costume walking around.

From inside the arena (ice area where the hockey games are played), the show looked sold out.

Star Wars in Concert Narrator Anthony Daniels, C3PO

When the show started, the orchestra played the famous Star Wars introduction. That the actor who played C3PO, Anthony Daniels, came out and spoke.

Oh, that reminds me of a Star Wars triva question. Who was the only actor to have been in all six episodes?

The concert was actually like a play. Anthony led us through all the movies from one to six. The orchestra played many songs from star wars while on a three story tall, high-definition, screen played scenes from the movies. Just like we’d seen on Channel 9 but a million times better live!

Inclusive to the music, there were lasers, spot lights, smoke machines, fire cannons, and steam blowers all cued to the music.
The clips of the movies were right in time with the symphony orchestra!

The music was so good, at one point, I forgot the music was live.

It was very exciting. There were many souvenirs for sale and of course, we bought some.
We had a great time. If it comes back, you got to go see it. Even if your not a Star Wars fan you’ll like it. Ask Mrs Thayer. Even she liked it.

Here is a clip i took:

Congratulations to Sarah from Godfrey.

Sarah_Drews Winner

She wins two movie passes for being the first to submit an idea this week.

Sarah writes, “Something fun that you could do on a snowy day would be to sit in front of your fire with your friends, and write short skits to perform for them. If you have enough people, have two people be judges and the rest of the people perform their skits. The judges would judge the skits on four categories: Creativity, funniness, remembrance, and keeping a straight face. Each category was worth 10 points a piece, so you could get an overall score of 40 points. We would also take notes on what we like about the skit and what we dislike about it, too. Making up skits gave us something fun to do on a snowy day, and it kept us warm! I am sure many other people would like to do this sometime too!”

Thanks for the idea Sarah. The truth is, I love to act too. Sounds like fun to me.

If you have done something interesting lately, let me know. I may mention it in an upcoming issue.

Send me a great idea, and you could win two Kerasotes movie passes!
They’re good at both Eastgate in East Alton or Showplace 12 in Edwardsville.

This is Ben Thayer and I’ve done that. In this case I even bought the t-shirt.
